We hope this section can offer you a broad overview of some of the services, language, and processes that we provide.
Reclaiming
Asphalt reclamation is the process of rebuilding worn out asphalt pavements by recycling the existing roadway. Reclamation uses the old asphalt and base material for the new road. There’s no need to haul in aggregate or haul out old material for disposal. This makes little to no waste and truck traffic is greatly reduced.
Milling
Milling is the process of cutting away anywhere from an inch to 3 inches of the top coat of asphalt right down to the existing binder layer. Milling is only an option if the current binder layer is structurally sound and intact. Milling can only work in certain instances and is not always an option.
Cracking
Cracking in asphalt can allow water or other harmful chemicals to get right down into your base layer. This can be very harmful to your binder which in turn will create the failure of your top coat. When cracks are not taken care of the eventually lead to potholes and the cost to repair them becomes more extensive. Crack filling will help seal the crack from water and chemicals and help save money on repairs.
Alligator Cracking
Alligator Cracking is bunch of cracks that form very close together. They can sometimes resemble a shattered glass look. Alligator cracking is caused by inadequate strength and/or poor drainage. The only effective repair for this kind of cracking is to cut out the affected area and patch it with fresh asphalt. Crack filling will not solve this problem.
Rutting
Rutting is a permanent deformation of the asphalt. It usually forms in the hotter seasons when the asphalt is softer. It is generally caused by heavy constant loads or parking in a specific area. The more common rutting is wheel paths and loading docks. Other than a new driveway or parking lot, rutting would need to be cut out and patched. Simply filling the ruts with asphalt will not solve this problem.
